• Choosing the Right Swimwear for Your Body Shape

    Summer swimwear guide

It’s the time of the year to shop for swimwear, but how do you know what best suits your body shape? We’ve taken the hassle out of getting beach-ready by sharing our insider tips and tricks for owning your place in the sun.

    Small Bust
The classic ’70s triangle bikini is perfect for you, and best worn to the beach with high-waisted denim cut-off shorts. Opt for a crochet triangle style if you’re a bohemian soul, or look for bikinis and one pieces with padded cups if you want to augment your natural assets.

    Large Bust
For the more generously endowed among us, underwire is a must. Thick straps will give you added support, as will cross-back one-piece styles and halter bikinis. Look for tops with a little more coverage: a ruched or spotted underwire tankini will add interest while delivering comfort and confidence.

    Pear-Shaped
Ruffles or laser-cut lace detailing will add volume to a bikini top and balance out your bottom half, as will stripes, prints and textured fabrics. Try pairing a bold top with dark-coloured or neutral bottoms to slim your derriere and thighs. A boy-leg bikini bottom delivers a little more coverage, but a classic bikini bottom is also slimming and unobtrusive.

    Tall and Thin

The ocean is your oyster. You can go as bold as you want with prints, colour and cuts, so take advantage of your versatile figure to try something a little different. A bandeau with a tiny bikini bottom is sleek and sexy, while a rashie in a bold print worn with tiny bottoms is the perfect mix of sun-smart and sex appeal. Cut outs will magically add curves to a boyish figure, and embellishments, metallics and neons will add interest.

    Curvy
Try an underwire polka-dot or plain bikini with a tie at the front to channel a 1950s screen siren. High-waisted bikini bottoms with a tankini will also look great on you – mix tops and bottoms in different colours and prints.

    Petite
Showing a little more skin will elongate your figure, so try side cut-outs, mesh detailing and deep-V tops. High-neck swimsuits will also add a few more centimetres to your torso, so why not try a sporty halter athleisure-style top with a pair of minimal bikini bottoms?

    Plus-Size
An underwire one-piece is the best swimsuit for you. Classic black is the most slimming and versatile – wear yours with dark glasses and a wide-brim hat for retro-style allure. Or, try a neoprene suit with a zip down the front for a more eye-catching statement. The added weight and structure of the wetsuit fabric will give you added support, and neoprene is a major fashion trend at the moment, so you won’t be forsaking your style smarts when you hit the sand.
